Conceived as a leisure destination, the new Ards Blair Mayne Wellbeing & Leisure Complex surpasses the conventional understanding of a community leisure centre, combining leisure, health & well-being and family activities. The facilities within the centre re-imagines the traditional demarcations between sports, games and adventure to provide a complete family and full generational offering.
From the moment users are welcomed into the heart of the centre via the triple height “street” they can instantly orientate and access all the key areas while being under the expert stewardship of the staff. They can move seamlessly between active participation in the extensive wet & dry facilities or choose the less strenuous luxury spa option. Social areas are strategically placed to promote time-out with a relaxing beverage as one observes the buzz of activity. This approach promotes full community engagement and has been reflected in the over subscription for membership since the centre opened.
As lead Architects the project was designed by McAdams in collaboration with specialist leisure Architects Space & Place Ltd. Following a traditional procurement process, it was delivered by Heron Bros. Ltd (Main Contractor) on programme and budget.
