Forming part of the £105m Belfast Leisure Transformation Programme, the Unique Selling Point of Avoniel is ‘outdoor sports and flexible indoor space’. The centre addresses the lack of outdoor pitch facilities in East Belfast by providing a range of 3G pitches catering from grassroots to IFA Intermediate standard with male, female, DDA, home & away team, and official’s changing facilities all catered for. A 240-seat covered spectator stand, covered MUGA pitches, and 7 & 5-a-side 3G pitches complete the outdoor facilities mix. Two large interconnected multi-functional studios provides flexible indoor space with self-catering facilities available for events and parties. Coupled with the nearby Templemore Baths Renovation, the new centre provides an excellent leisure facility for East Belfast.
Following on from our recent Lisnasharragh, Brook and Andersonstown Leisure Centres, McAdams took the design of Avoniel on at Stage 2 before novating to Design & Build contractor Heron Bros Ltd for Technical Design and Construction stages. Throughout the design process McAdams worked closely with Belfast City Council and Greenwich Leisure Limited to ensure a high level of facilities were included to enhance the local community and align to the council’s city-wide leisure strategy.
