Brook Leisure Centre is part of Belfast City Council’s £105m Leisure Transformation Programme and a combined winner of the RICS 2020 awards. Conceived as a community first facility this project reaches out to all sections and abilities within the local neighbourhood to provide a full family leisure experience. In particular its innovative use of mood lighting and sensory effects in the Pool Hall means it can offer different swimming experiences whilst also effectively engaging in therapy for children with learning difficulties and special needs. During the design development McAdam and our specialist leisure design partners S&P Ltd were astonished at the commitment and engagement provided by the local community groups. This was clearly a centre for the community designed by the community. This experience enriched our understating of leisure facilities.
The project has delivered a new modern state of the art sports and leisure facility within West Belfast. Its focus was on external sports with a GAA pitch, hurling wall, and covered 5 aside MUGA pitches. It also has a swimming pool, gym, multi-use sports hall and a studio.
As part of a city wide leisure transformation programme the new Brook Leisure Centre was carefully crafted to provide the right mix of facilities in the right location so that in combination with other con-current and future leisure schemes the residents of Belfast had the widest possible range of facilities.
