Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre is part of Belfast City Council’s £105m Leisure Transformation Programme and a combined winner of the RICS 2020 awards. It represents a ‘step change’ in leisure services in East Belfast focused primarily on reducing health inequalities by ensuring that everyone has access to modern, fit for purpose facilities. The RICS Judges were impressed at the social impact of this project stating “From inception the project team consulted with the community. Its goal was to ensure that everyone had access to modern, fit for purpose leisure facilities”.
To achieve this we consulted local neighbourhoods to ensure that the facilities suited their needs, requirements and style of activities. The time and energy committed to consultation across all sections of society demonstrated genuine community commitment. The result was a new modern state of the art sports and leisure facility together with community centre. Its focus will be on aquatics with a 25m pool 8 lane pool, diving pool, learner pool, whilst dry-side facilities include gym, multi-use sports hall, studios, cafe and external MUGA pitch.
As part of a city wide leisure transformation programme the new Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre was carefully crafted to provide the right mix of facilities in the right location so that in combination with other con-current and future leisure schemes the residents of Belfast had the widest possible range of facilities. To achieve this McAdams worked closely with Belfast City Council to realise their carefully crafted strategy and demonstrate a best value solution which was both sustainable and fit for purpose.
