Project Summary

McAdam were appointed to help the University of Ulster with the £3m refurbishment of the existing Block MF, to accommodate the School of Health Sciences relocation from the Jordanstown Campus to the Magee Campus.

The project consisted of the refurbishment of the existing three storey building to create a range of teaching spaces, faculty offices and shower/changing facilities for students and staff.

The newly designed spaces now help accomodate a range of classroom and practical teaching spaces across multiple disciplines including Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy and Health Physiology. A newly designed indoor fitness suite has also been included to accommodate the Sport, Physical Activity & Health faculty.

Externally, a new and upgraded entrances have been added to the building to improve accessibility and provide better connection the wider Magee campus.

The benefits of the project included:

  • Creation of both bespoke and flexible teaching and practical spaces across all multiple faculties, including two new purpose-built Radiography Imaging suites accommodating specialist x-ray equipment for teaching and practical demonstration,
  • Helping Ulster University produce high quality health professionals and continue as a forward thinking and progressive educational provider within an extremely competitive market,
  • Modernising interior communal spaces including the redesign of the three-storey entrance lobby to provide a more welcoming and relaxed environment,
  • Improve accessibility through upgraded entrances, new accessibility ramps, and accessible toilet and shower facilities.
